Poetry for Cliff
A Poem for Cliff

'For whoever would save his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it'
Matthew 16:25
To live we have to die
To gain life we need to suffer
This world is only a trial
For the beginning of a new life

So together we need to live
And repent to God for all our sins
As this short life is our only chance
We have to decide
Between eternal death and eternal life

A death of pain and uffering
A wish that we had lived
For now it is too late
Now we are in a place
Surrounded by hate
No Father that forgives and fulfills our lives
But instead where you are prey

Or else a place in heaven
Which we surely have to earn
Back in the land of paradise
With the God that brought us here
No need for faith or hope
But in perfection is peace and love
In a land where the richness flows
And everyone is alive
So take courage do not be afraid
He's right outside our hearts
Be generous and let him in
If you'd appreciate forgiveness for your sins

Now God has chosen one of us
Who freely gave his life
To serve as a role model
And open our eyes

~ your friend forever, David Calabe ~
Friendship defies and ignores distance
It weathers the hard times and
Shares the good
Together we have found this
Our friendship has provided
Acceptane and understanding
In a world that pushes people
Apart
I will always remain with the memories
Of the times we shared
Hope I'll make it near you
Till then
Always your friend

Remembering Cliff

As we are all gathered together today
To honour this our Cliff's birthday
We'll share the memories we hold so dear
Knowing that, while we do, he too is here

We remember the things closest to his heart
His family and friends from which he did part
We remember his smile on his beautiful face
Just one of many memories that time can't erase

We remember how much that bowling he liked
Now every game is just filled with strikes
We remember the boarding, oh the noise it makes
Now his jumps are as high as Heaven's gates

We remember tennis, for that was his goal
Now the serve is from God's racket of gold
We remember his love of games in puter land
Now he's shaking the prince of prussia's hand

We remember the horses he loved so much
Now his ride is through clouds, the stars to touch
We remember dogs, lessons brought from above
Now he's teaching about unconditional love

All of these things of Cliff we will always miss
Whether of holding him close or giving him a kiss
We must remember most though, he's now found his place
He walks in peace, with tranquility, in God's own grace

You Ask Me

You ask me if the pain will stop
You ask me for how long
The terrible lonely longing
Echoes as a never-ending song.

It's a yearning tht never ceases
A love that can't be still
An ache to greet our loved one
A cry forever shrill.

You must think of him as living
To have only gone away
To greet the One who loves us
And who took his pain away.

Place him God's keeping
For He gave his only son
And peace will fall upon you
Until he too, to you says 'come'.

Just a simple veil divides us
From our loved ones over there
So think of him as living
And pray to him in prayer.
